Start off by learning the sounds "a", "m", "s", "t", and the revision level. With a single In-App purchase, you gain access to all the remaining levels and sounds - no additional payment required.
No internet access is needed, and there are no advertisements.
This app is ideal for beginning readers, pre-schoolers who are about to start school, kindergarten kids, and those struggling with reading. It complements our Parrotfish Sight Words app.
Understanding language, learning sight words, and grasping how sounds form words through a structured phonics program have been proven to be highly effective in helping children learn to read.
This app provides a comprehensive and structured approach to teaching beginning phonics. By completing the program, children will be able to read, write, and spell simple words like "cat" and "fan," as well as blends like "brush" and "hang." This program covers single sounds, cvc, cvcc, ccvc, ccvcc, cccvcc for teachers.
Research suggests that dedicating 10 to 15 minutes per day to a structured phonics program yields optimal results. If your child is ready to learn how to read, they can complete one level per day to enhance their learning experience.
The full version of this app allows you to set up individual profiles for multiple users. The letters are introduced in the same order as many schools. The program starts by teaching 4 single sounds and then proceeds to a revision level where these sounds are used to read and write words.
In this program, children will learn the sound of each letter, its visual representation, how to recognize it in words, read words containing the letter, blend letters into words, and write each letter.
Reading and writing simple words begins as soon as the first 4 sounds are learned. Both upper and lower case letters are introduced together. The inclusion of male and female voices and different fonts aids in generalization.
The app includes 6 games with increasing difficulty, each targeting a different reading skill while aiding memory. The revision levels consolidate the sounds learned in previous levels. The games provide ample practice and repetition of the words.
All games in the app enhance fluency and promote instant recognition. Guesses are not rewarded; progress is solely determined by accuracy.
The games are designed to be enjoyable, with real gameplay, immediate feedback, a rewarding structure, and progress tracking features.
The app comprises 17 levels, starting with single letters and progressing to blending and segmenting words. It includes over 150 images and 500 words, resulting in a truly comprehensive learning experience.
The app is completely ad-free, and an internet connection is not required.
Options within the app allow for progression through games and levels in a logical order. Alternatively, all levels can be unlocked so that younger children can play the easier games at each level. Users can also toggle the music on and off, as well as reset levels.
GAMES:
- Titus is Fishing: Matching a spoken sound to the written sound. The game starts easy with only one choice but gradually becomes more challenging. Both lower case and upper case letters are used.
- Feed Green Gordie: Drag the image that starts with the sound into the fish's mouth.
- Trace and Write: Trace the letter being learned while staying on the track. Each stroke is marked with a starting, ending point, and directional arrow. As the game progresses, only the starting, ending points, and arrows are shown.
- What's Missing: An image and its word are shown with the target letter missing from the beginning, middle, or end of the word. Players must select the correct letter or letter sound and drag it into place.
- Slide and Match: This revision game focuses on the letters covered in the current level. Players drag the same sounds onto a pile to make matches. As the pile grows taller, the colors darken.
- Spell with Sam: Players create words using all the sounds they have been taught. This level signifies that they can read and write.
